Gala day 2008
May 5th

It was a early start for Barnwood members
who worked hard to get things right for the Gala Day arriving at about
7.00am to put the finishing touches to the green and start off the
catering duty for the day. Free Tea and Coffee with Biscuits was
available on arrival. The weather was on the damp side and got better as the morning went on only to
have sharp shower of rain in the early afternoon, but the rest of the
day turned out to be a fine. Welcoming all players to Barnwood's Gala
Day Chairman John Jones hoped all would enjoy a good days bowling and
explained how the day would run. It was then on with the game. There were
112 bowlers taking part today some as far apart as Devon to Lincolnshire
with quite a number of local clubs being represented.

The group was split
into two halves one playing whilst the second rested. Lunch was
taken in two sittings a Beef Salad with Fruit and Fresh Cream as afters.
The winner of each half played each other for 1st
and 2nd place whilst both 2nd placed teams played each other for 3rd and
4th places. Club Chairman John Jones thanked all teams for taking part
today and hoped they enjoyed the day with us and looked forward to
seeing them again next year, A special thank you went to the Umpire of
the Day Steve Alway together with a small gift to show our thanks
from the club. With so many people to thank for the effort put
in by so many people from those working on the green to behind the Bar
and the incredible effort from the Kitchen personnel and the Master Mind
behind the day Peter Beard.
