Match Report

Bristol Greenbank B.C 29th June (Home)

Today saw Barnwood and Greenbank play a competition (Two rink comp) and a interclub comp for a shield within the same game. The Shield was put up by Bristol Greenbank to be played for over two games. The winner being the team who has the highest shot difference over two games. Barnwood took a plus shot difference into this game of 11 and were confident of a win, with home advantage but things did not work that way. Only winning on 2 rinks and losing the match by 22 shots give Bristol Greenbank the Trophy with a plus 11. They won the Two Rink comp as well on both rinks making it their day. Barnwood's Captain Keith Hardwidge congratulated Bristol boys on their win and promised next year we would be trying a little harder to win the trophy.

Who's been on Holiday then?

Cardiff Athletic B.C 22nd June (Home)

A cloudy sky greeted our friends from Cardiff but there were blue patches and if the wind had dropped it would have been a nice day but none of this was a patch on the warm greeting Barnwood gave to their guests. A lot of old friends had a lot to talk about whilst sampling the Ale. This being only a bi-ennual game,  you can understand the chit chat that went on. With the two Captains happy with the paper work it was out on the green to do battle. As mentioned earlier the wind soon took the blame for either pushing the woods on or not blowing and the woods being short which all added to the banter going on around the green. At the end of the game the result was a resounding win on all rinks to Cardiff Athletic a feat not done in over 3 years to Barnwood. Many congratulations to our guests.

Worcester Brotherhood 21st June (Home)

A rather wet afternoon had been forecast for this game but it did not stop Worcester Boys from arriving early and catching their hosts out with not having the Bar open, this was soon rectified and all was well. While friendships were renewed the Captains worked out the format for today's game. Because of the forecast we played one shot on the first two ends and no 3's up. As it turned out the weather was kind to us and the game was able to be played without getting our wets on. The Green bowled well and Worcester players congratulated us on our green. I might add they should we came second. Well bowled the Brotherhood.

Dursley B.C. 15th June (Home)

Sunday 15th June which is Fathers Day saw this annual match reduced to four rinks, no one knows the reason six rinks could not be raised ( possibly Fathers Day) but it was decided to go with four rinks and what a nice afternoon it turned out to be for the players who turned out. Straight away the Bar was put under some pressure by the Dursley Boys and quite a bit of banter was going on while the two Captains sorted out the cards. Once the welcome by Captain Keith was done the game got under way. There turned out to be some very strange going on's on most rinks?  Rink 2 was 10 shots down at ten ends and won by one shot, Rink 3 all square at ten ends 8 all then lost by 8shots. Rink 4 was 11 up at ten ends and went on to win 17 shots. Rink 5 took a 11 shot lead by the tenth and only managed to draw in the end.

Rink 2 R. Guitard, G. Boots, M. Booth and E. Lane played R. Evans, M. Hoskins, G. Powell and K. Bryant          20 to 19

Rink 3 R. Thomas, B. Smith, K. Hardwidge and K. Manns played C. Slee, G. Lee, B. Stoneman and B. Burleigh. 15 to 23

Rink 4 D. Bourne, R. Washbourne, P. Beard and M. Collier played D. Law, D. Lloyd, J. Cox and J. Williams.        28 to 11

Rink 5 R. Hooper, B. Walden, G. Hopkin and T. Wade played J Dailly, L. Dawes, M. Kingscote and C. Livall.     20 to 20

Match score Barnwood 83 to Dursley 73
