















Every Saturday and Sunday afternoons during
the outdoor bowls season 24 Barnwood Ladies some not bowlers who
give up their time to prepare a meal for the Barnwood men
bowlers and their guests. These meals are always of the highest
order and receive so much praise from other clubs. The men of
Barnwood put on a thank you dinner as a small way of saying
thank you Ladies. The men dressed in Dinner Suit with Black Ties
and the Ladies dressed to kill. The Club Chairman John Jones was
there to welcome the Ladies with a glass of Sherry. The Ladies
sat and chatted sipping their sherry as they gathered for the
announcement of Ladies please take your seats. Each Lady had a
place card noting their seat with a number on it, this was for
a free raffle. The meal was excellent cooked by George
Shirtliffe and Pat Main and received fulsome praise from all
present. Starters, Main course. dessert, cheese and biscuits
followed by coffee and mints. Wine was also served to accompany
the meal. Ample quantities for all was available. The Ladies
captain Elaine Hopkin on behalf of all the guests thanked the
gentlemen for the wonderful time that was had by all.

held their Wedding Reception after Honeymoon spent cruising.
It turned out
to be a great evening with all who managed to make it enjoying a
lovely buffet and some good music to dance to.









Presentation of Charity Cheque

Each Year Barnwood Bowls Club
raises funds for a local charity nominated by their Captains.
This year the charity was The
James Hopkins Trust based in Barnwood itself. A charity which
provides care for life limited children and their families.
Various fund raising events were
arranged throughout the last bowls season including fines for
misdemeanours’ on the green, coffee mornings, raffles one member
even abseiled from the top of Eagle Star Tower in Cheltenham
plus very generous donations from the members and visiting
teams. A grand total of £1000 was raised and this was
presented to the Charity representatives at the bowls club
yesterday evening during a break in the regular Tuesday evening
short mat match. The money was presented to Colin Dyer the
representative of the James Hopkins trust by George and Carolann
Shirtliff who were the Men and Ladies Captains for the last
season.
